Fashioning Change is dedicated to helping shoppers make better purchase decisions. It is our mission to provide people with information, tools, and opportunity to create positive change via the things they buy.
We believe that every purchase we make is a “vote” for the practices of the company we are buying from. This “vote” can protect our health, the Earth, and human rights or support the destruction of the environment, use of sweatshops, and child labor.
We recommend design-driven brands that have selected to use Earth-friendly textiles and materials in their lines. Some of the innovative textile choices used by our brands include organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, pineapple and banana silk, lycocell, modal, cocona, and charcoal based fibers.
When a piece of clothing is made, worn, and discarded there are a number of touch points that have a positive or negative impact on the Earth. We are proud to only recommend brands that use Cradle-to-Cradle design practices meaning they consider the impact of where a garment begins, the impact of its creation, and where it will end up when it is no longer worn. All our brands complete a positive lifecycle - what a brand takes from the environment to make a garment can return to the Earth with no harmful impact.
Every brand that we recommend uses sustainable design principles. Sustainable design is a process that strives to achieve the smallest footprint possible.
Fashioning Change believes in empowering others to live happy, healthy, and Earth-friendly lives. We only recommend brands that contribute to making the world a better place by giving back in some “fashion.”
By the time a piece of clothing gets to a shopper on average it has had contact with at least three countries. Fashioning Change brands work hard to source textiles and manufacturers that use sustainable and ethical practices in both manufacturing and transport.
Fashioning Change brands work to empower the people that construct their lines. In order to be a brand we recommend worker conditions must be safe, free from mental, emotional, and physical intimidation and harassment, non-discriminatory, provide a minimum living wage compensation to workers for all hours worked, and not violate any human rights.
