Flash and Trash
Flash and Trash
Our use of the phrase ‘flash and trash’ refers to the poor design and construction of trendy garments and products. Many trendy (i.e. flash) items are constructed with just enough quality to have value but designed to break and fall apart within a certain time frame (i.e. trash) resulting in consumers needing to purchase new products and garments.
The planned poor construction of products and apparel is also referred to as ‘planned obsolescence.’ To learn more about how the manufacturing industry thoughtful plans for products to fall apart click here to be directed to our blog post on the ‘U.S. Materials Economy.’
